Most teachers are currently doing it, which can take away from curriculum content instruction.
Why?
Because most schools do not have courses / curriculums set up to teach students the tech skills they need to use in their other classes.
And it is assumed that students "just Know these skills" which most of them do not.

They need to understand appropriate use of technology and electronic communication.

The need to know how to access, evaluate and use the information they find and not just assume that its valid just because its on the internet.
They need to know what to do with the information they've gathered and their purpose in using digital resources.
They must understand the technology is a means, it is not the end.
